March Dance offers Start Up – Keir Commission to Support the Development of New Works

March Dance is proud to announce Start Up – Keir Commission, a $3000 bursary to support the development of a new work for inclusion in March Dance 2023.

March Dance brings together the diversity of ongoing independent dance practice in Sydney. They provide an annual festival focus on diverse forms of independent dance to reach city audiences. This year’s festival will take place throughout the entire month of March.

It is the objective of March Dance to help support all stages of career development. March Dance wants to help the sector gain knowledge and skills in grant writing, budgets, and self-promotion. The information gathered is also used to support festival growth each year; to assist in gaining funding and sponsorship; and to create an even stronger festival in 2023.

This bursary, contributed by The Keir Foundation, is available to support an NSW dance maker with the development of new work that can be presented in development or final stage in March Dance 2023, with the intention that it should go on to other platforms and audiences.

In order to apply for March Dance’s Start Up – Keir Commission you must meet a few criteria. First, you should be a NSW-based choreographer, dancer, or producer. You should also be able to demonstrate your ability to deliver the work you are proposing (through your experience to date, creative and management team, and other support). The project should be based in contemporary dance practices of any training or tradition, and can include collaborations with other disciplines. Finally, the final outcome of the project should be able to be presented in Sydney in March 2023 as part of the festival, with the potential for further presentation nationally or internationally.

Your application will be assessed based on merit and response to the selection criteria: Quality of new work; Caliber of the artist in relation to its execution; Benefit to the artist at this point in the development of work and their career; Ability to deliver the project including the use of the bursary; and Sector support, evidenced by Letters of Support from individuals or organisations.

If applying for a collective or collaboration, please nominate 1 person to submit on the collective’s behalf.

Selection will be assessed by a panel of NSW dance artists, the Keir Foundation, and Critical Path.

March Dance encourages you to contact Program Manager Lauren Vassallo to discuss your project lauren@marchdance.com

Applications for Start Up – Keir Commission close at midnight on March 1, and applicants will be notified of the outcome by Thursday, March 31. Visit marchdance.com for more information.
