Lion Heart Dance Co. launches Next Steps

Next Steps professional development programLion Heart Dance Company in Melbourne has launched Next Steps, a professional development program for early to mid-career dancers. With the goal of up-skilling the professional practice of these dancers, this unique initiative will provide the 12 selected applicants with the opportunity to learn and develop practical business skills in round-table style lectures. In addition, successful applicants will train alongside the company dancers, attend weekly master classes and collaborate on their own creative projects, all while under the careful guidance of the company director, Benjamin Curé.

Each of the 10 weeks within the program consists of five hours of practical dance training and two hours of lectures, occurring on Tuesday and Sunday. This structure is ideal for those needing to develop their skills while still maintaining their other ongoing commitments. Curé’s hope is that the leaders who are trained up through this program will go on to shape the professional landscape of the Australian dance industry in profoundly positive ways.

The program’s sponsor, Energetiks, is proud to support the emerging leaders of the dance industry by providing two half-scholarships, valued at $475 each, to assist two exceptional early career artists with attending the program.

Interested dancers should note that applications close at midnight on March 10. The program will begin Tuesday, March 20 and run through Sunday, May 27. Participants will be required to attend classes and lectures on Tuesdays from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. and on Sunday from 1:30 to 4:30 p.m. The program costs $950.
