Lina Limosani wins Dance Creation SA

Australian choreographer Lina LimosaniThe 2014 South Australian Dance Creation Choreographic Competition – more commonly known by its condensed name, Dance Creation SA – was presented on Friday, July 4 at Adelaide College of the Arts by The Australian Institute of Classical Dance. Choreographer Lina Limosani was announced the 2014 winner.

A regional semi-final competition for choreographers, Dance Creation SA is a unique opportunity for a select crop of dancemakers to present works in the hopes of being chosen to compete as part of a larger, national Dance Creation competition, which will take place in Melbourne in October this year.

Designed to support a new generation of choreographers by providing them with financial assistance to develop their craft, Dance Creation allows aspiring and budding dancemakers to present their work to their peers as well as local dance companies’ directors.

As part of Dance Creation SA 2014, seven choreographers were chosen to present work – Aidan Munn, Courteney Lee, Lina Limosani, Rita Carlene Bush, Tobiah Booth-Remmers, Daniel Jaber and Cathy Adamek (with Ben-Hur Winter.)

“Dance Creation SA 2014 was a huge success,” wrote Chairperson Jacqui Stratton-Smith in a follow-up email. “Congratulations to our winner, Lina Limosani. Her work will be performed at the showcase in Melbourne on October 28.”

The runner-up is Daniel Jaber, an accomplished choreographer who is now in the running to have his work performed as well. Two of the five state runner-ups will be chosen based on a video of their performances, according to Stratton-Smith.

The national Dance Creation finals competition will be a must-see event this October at the Malthouse Theatre. For more information, visit www.ballet.org.au.
