Join RAD Australia for the 2022 Audrey Nicholls Awards

The disruption of the pandemic was particularly hard on Victorian dancers, which is why RAD can’t wait to bring the Victorian RAD community back together again for the Audrey Nicholls OAM FRAD ARAD Grade Awards 2022. For the first time since 2019, RAD Australia will be hosting the awards.

Join RAD Australia at The Primrose Potter Australian Ballet Centre in Melbourne on Sunday 4 & Sunday 11 September with guest adjudicator David McAllister AC, Vice President of the RAD and former dancer and Artistic Director The Australian Ballet. Audrey Nicholls OAM FRAD ARAD will be the primary adjudicator.

Born in Townsville Queensland, Audrey Nicholls is one of Australia’s most experienced, respected and admired teachers. A Life Member, former Graded Examiner for 33 years and ambassador of the Royal Academy of Dance, Audrey has for many years been an advisor for new RAD Examiners and continues to be a mentor for new and already established teachers. Audrey is now the patron of the RAD Victoria Tasmania Panel. In the 2013 Australia Day Honours List she was awarded the Order of Australia Medal for her services to the Performing Arts, particularly Ballet.

Students studying Grades 1-8 of the RAD syllabus may enter the Audrey Nicholls Awards. Cost of entry is $40 per student. Registrations must be complete by 21 August. Students are asked to arrive 15 mins before the warm-up barre to register on the day of the event.

The format includes a warm up barre in Studio 6, which will not be adjudicated or open for viewing by an audience. The warm-up barre is compulsory for all entrants. Only candidates will be allowed into the dressing rooms/warm up studio area. Each level will be adjudicated and awards presented at the completion of each class. The adjudicators’ decisions will be final and no communication regarding their decisions will be entered into. Overall Awards are presented at the end of each day.
