Introducing the Australia Samba Congress

2018 Sydney Samba EventThe inaugural Australia Samba Congress (ASC) will take place in April and is a groundbreaking event for Brazilian arts and culture. From the producers of the International Samba Congress in Los Angeles, Brasil Samba Congress in Rio, Gafieira Brasil and Samba Internacional, the ASC is the first event of its kind to hit Australian shores. It will bring together dance and fitness enthusiasts from around Australia and New Zealand.

Set for April 7 and 8 at Village Performing Arts Centre in Alexandria, NSW, the ASC’s mission is threefold: to promote the essence of Samba, to foster the integrity of Brazilian performing arts culture in Australia and to educate through exposure to authentic Brazilian culture and artists.

The ASC will feature eight of Brasil’s leading artists and instructors presenting Brazilian dance workshops, cultural education and the most inspirational performances outside of Brasil across two jam-packed days in Sydney. These artists include Carlinhos Salgueiro, a world-famous “King of Samba” and perhaps Rio’s most internationally recognised choreographer. He’s the creative director of Passistas at Salgueiro.

Other artists include Rosangela Silvestre, creator of the Silvestre Technique; Luana Bandeira, the award-winning Queen of the Bateria of Estacio de Sa and Musa for Unidos do Viradouro; Gabriel Castro, choreographer and director of Passistas at Imperio Serrano and Imperio da Tijuca; Rodrigo Marques, award-winning Carnaval choreographer and artistic director for the legendary Cia de Danca Carlinhos de Jesus; Uillana Adaes, the reigning Queen of Rio Carnaval and a fitness model; Patrick Carvelho, Rio Carnaval choreographer, Gafieira Brasil legend, resident pro on the hit Globo TV Show Strictly Come Dancing; and Aninha Malandro, who boasts 30 years of experience parading in Rio’s top Samba schools.

Dance students and teachers are invited to attend the ASC, whether beginner or advanced. Since Brazilian Samba is one of the most highly booked entertainments across Sydney, this will be a worthy investment for aspiring dancers. It is the first time artists like Luana Bandeira, Gabriel Castro, Rodrigo Marques, Uillana Adaes and Patrick Carvelho have been in Australia.
