Introducing LOFT, A New Space for Independent Dance in South Australia

In partnership with Arts South Australia, Australian Dance Theatre is thrilled to announce LOFT – a dedicated space for independent South Australian dance in the studio at Lion Arts Centre.

LOFT is a space at the top of a building, in the centre of the city, dedicated to elevating dance practice in South Australia. LOFT seeks to uplift the dance sector, centering dance as a community practice and providing pathways for artists to gather, experiment, develop, and reach new heights.

Formally launching in mid-2025, LOFT is currently recruiting for a part-time Creative Producer to lead the initiative and shape its offering to best serve the independent dance sector. Offered on a part-time basis, the Creative Producer will be intrinsically connected to the dance sector in South Australia and the needs of independent artists, with experience in the delivery of artist development programs.

ADT is also thrilled to announce the PEAK Residency, which will see a successful project receive a $12,000 cash investment and up to six weeks of studio time at Lion Arts Centre to develop a new choreographic work.

The PEAK Residency offers South Australian artists and collectives a year-long program of creative development, a major investment and a platform for sharing their work with local and global audiences at the 2026 Adelaide Fringe.

The PEAK Residency is open to new dance projects that are ready for a sustained period of development and a public outcome in early 2026 – this could consist of a fully-realised season, development sharing or in-progess showing.

The Residency is open to independent dance artists, choreographers and collectives based in South Australia. The timing of the residencies will be negotiated with the successful applicant and the Creative Producer of LOFT.

Applications close at 5pm ACDT, Monday 9 December 2024. All applicants will be notified by Friday 17 January 2025. Click here to apply.
