Funds being raised for WA dance documentary
Plans are in the works for Film Director Dawn Jackson to bring us a one-hour documentary highlighting the lives of Western Australian ballet royalty Dame Lucette Aldous and Alan Alder and their daughter Floeur Alder. Told from Floeur’s perspective, the documentary is bound to be an important project helping to recall and honour Australian dance history.
Dame Lucette Aldous and Alan Alder are most recognised for their work at The Australian Ballet, where they were principal dancers in the 1970s. They were performing with the company when Rudolf Nureyev famously staged his ballet Don Quixote. They’re known for helping to build the company into an international brand. The documentary will highlight this and the history of how their careers affected their family.
Their daughter, who followed in their path as a dancer, is renowned for making headlines both as a performer and choreographer, and as a victim of a vicious random attack, which changed her life and affected her career. Floeur’s journey of healing and emerging “from the wings of her parent’s life to take center stage” will prove to be truly inspirational.
The Film and Television Institute is currently crowdsourcing funds for this project. The budget is set at $45,000, of which $15,000 is dedicated to “further research and collation of archival material.” Find out more and donate at www.fti.asn.au/pif/pointe-tv-documentary.
