Dancenorth tours ‘If_Was_’

Dancenorth premieres If _Was _Dancenorth will soon premiere the double bill If_Was_ featuring choreography by Stephanie Lake and Ross McCormack at its home venue in Townsville from June 9-11. It will then tour the programme to Mackay Entertainment Centre on June 15, Proserpine Entertainment Centre on June 16, the Judith Wright Centre of Contemporary Arts in Fortitude Valley on June 23-25 and The Substation in Melbourne on June 29-July 2.

Audiences are invited to delve into the fanciful and illusionary worlds of Lake and McCormack as they fall down the rabbit hole of imagination. Dancenorth Artistic Director Kyle Page set the challenge for each artist to select sound from the one sound score, to create costumes from one pattern, to utilise lighting from one design and to work to a set duration. It is within these parameters that If_Was_ came to life.

If_Was_ is both an investigation into choreographic practice and a sensory representation of each artist’s personal library of lived experience generated in response to a strict framework of equal limitations.

Through the programme, viewers can celebrate the choreographers’ differences and question what is unique about each of us that makes us choose what we do.
