Dance Arts Alliance is Working to Create a New Award for Dance Teachers
Dance Arts Alliance (DAA) is working to create a new award for dance teachers that moves away from the Fitness Award, which tends to be very gym and swim focused.
The proposed title of the new award is the Dance and Performing Arts Education Award. It will have levels that better reflect what dance teachers do, i.e. what level someone is at when supervising children at a theatre, etc.
DAA will also write a guide on how to use the award and share some best practice on employment in a studio, including your rights as a teacher.
The process to create a new award is to submit a proposal to Fair Work Australia – a proposal that’s had a lot of input from studio owners and teachers around the country, representing as broad a cross section of the dance industry as possible.
DAA advocates for the future of dance and performing arts education. They are a not-for-profit organisation led by industry experts, dedicated to supporting dance studio owners, teachers, and businesses across Australia.
As the emerging peak body for dance and performing arts, DAA is driving change in the dance industry through accreditation and industry standards, advocacy, child safety initiatives, and additional resources and professional development.
