Champions crowned at explosive Red Bull BC One Cypher Australia Final

After multiple rounds of high-energy action, B-Boy BOBCC (Takuma Takemasa) and B-Girl Momiji (Momiji Hama) have been crowned champions of Red Bull BC One Cypher Australia in Sunday’s electrifying final at Brisbane Powerhouse.

The pair have secured their place representing Australia at the Red Bull BC One World Final in Tokyo this November, where they’ll battle against 32 of the world’s best breakers for the coveted title of World Champion.

Red Bull BC One is the world’s premiere one-on-one breaking competition, with this weekend’s events showcasing the depth of talent in the Australian breaking scene. The competition kicked off on Saturday with the Red Bull BC One Cypher Brisbane at Elements Collective, where aspiring breakers battled for their place in the National Final.

On Sunday night, the stage was set for the final where 16 B-Boys and 8 B-Girls went head-to-head in a thrilling display of power moves, footwork, freezes, and raw creativity. They competed in front of a sold-out crowd in Brisbane, providing an electric atmosphere for one of the biggest nights in Australian breaking.

In the B-Girl category, Brisbane resident B-Girl Momiji lit up the floor in a thrilling final against Sydney’s Riot. Cheered on by her home crowd, she claimed the title and was still in disbelief afterwards: “I didn’t expect to win – I’m just feeling so happy. Wow,” she said. Momiji is looking forward to representing Australia in her home-country of Japan at the Red Bull BC One World Final: “I have to start practicing and just keep pushing harder,” Momiji said.

Sydney’s BOBCC claimed the B-Boy title after an electrifying head-to-head battle with B-Boy Harry Hybrid. Across three intense rounds, his unique style and swift moves set him apart, securing the crown.

The judging panel included WA legend B-Boy Pepito, Melbourne’s B-Girl Naru, and international star Kid David (Step Up 5, Battle of the Year, Lemonade Mouth).

When asked what he looks for in deciding the winner of each round, Kid David – who has judged Red Bull BC One competitions across the globe – said: “You need a variety of content without repeating; I like to see swift movement, and it has to be on beat.”

Hosted by breaking legends B-Boy Fongo and Wongo, spectators at the Red Bull BC One Cypher Australia were also treated to live music performances from Ipswich-born beatboxer Tom Thum, music duo Rush Hour (RSHR), DJ Bacon, and Melbourne beatmaker Sadiva.
