Celebrate World Tutu Day in Melbourne!
The Australian Ballet School is once again hosting a World Tutu Day celebration in support of ballet education!
The official World Tutu Day is scheduled for “Tu Tu 2016” or February 2, 2016. However, so that more people can attend, The Australian Ballet School will hold its official event this Sunday, January 31 from 11 am to 2 pm.
Dancers, parents, teachers and arts enthusiasts can come to Open Day at the School and enjoy free classes, demonstrations and a special photo studio. Little dancers will especially enjoy special guest Emma Watkins, also known as the Yellow Wiggle. The event will take place at The Australian Ballet School campus at 2 Kavanagh Street Southbank in Melbourne.
Now through Tu Tu 2016, dancers are challenged to post photos, videos and more using the hashtag #worldtutuday to social media platforms. The Australian Ballet School hopes to see posts from around the world, with participants sharing media that celebrates ballet in their own culture and country.
Can’t make the Melbourne event? Not to worry! Some other events are popping up all around the country (and the world!) For example, Tasmanian dancers can head to Theatre Royal Hobart in their tutu at noon on January 31 for a special photo and ballet class, as hosted by House of Dance.
Still can’t make any of these events? Why not hold your own event then? Some dancers are holding their own Tutu Tea or Ballet Party. If you do this, be sure to share your photos!
