Catch a dance film at Melbourne Planetarium
Want to experience something a little different? How about taking in a dance film on the 16m domed ceiling of the Melbourne Planetarium? Located at Scienceworks Museum in Spotswood, the Melbourne Planetarium is typically a place people think of viewing the night sky in 360 degrees, but now instead of stars and plants, guests can take in the best of Welsh contemporary dance thanks to a new collaboration between multimedia company 4Pi productions and Coreo Cymru, creative dance producer of Wales.
Dubbed “The Dance Dome”, this collection of short films had its first screening on December 7 and it continues on the remaining Friday nights of this month — December 14, 21 and 28 at 9 p.m.
Guests can sit back with the planetarium’s reclining seats and enjoy a 7.1 surround sound system and a full-dome video projection system.
The selection of short films includes: The Beautiful, which follows the spiritual journey of a dancer who ultimately reaches enlightenment; The Sublime, a dynamic fulldome film with site-specific sequences of parkour and breakdance; Pal O’ Me Heart, a story of two Irish boys set during the Easter Rising, in which dancers move in and out of the water; and Liminality, a fulldome dance film produced collaboratively between Wales and India.
