BlakDance’s First Nations Creative Pathways Program EOI Close on 24 August

Are you passionate about performing arts, storytelling, or working behind the scenes in creative production? Do you want to explore a career in the arts industry?

BlakDance’s First Nations Creative Pathways Program is looking for emerging First Nations creatives who are ready to take the next step toward a career in the performing arts. Whether you’re interested in producing, creative project management, stage management, or arts leadership, they want to hear from you!

This free, nine-month initiative empowers First Nations participants by providing professional development and leadership training, tailored career advice, and mentoring to help them establish and grow their careers in the industry. The program offers networking opportunities with local arts employers, guidance on training pathways, including job-based learning, and access to resources and referrals through engaged stakeholders. Participants also connect with First Nations industry professionals and peers, benefit from a week-long immersive career experience in September 2025, and receive ongoing wrap-around support and guidance throughout the program.

Participants have access to a range of tailored wrap-around supports, including subsidised travel (go card top-ups and fuel cards), fully catered meals, and childcare assistance to help manage family responsibilities during training. Job search support includes resume writing, interview preparation, and help accessing job opportunities. Assistance is also provided for obtaining essential documents such as Blue Cards and tax file numbers. Cultural mentorship ensures guidance through cultural protocols in professional settings.

BlakDance invites Expressions of Interest from Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander individuals who are aged 18 or over and have a passion for working in the performing arts or creative industries, including mid-career professionals looking to transition into the performing arts. Applicants should be motivated to develop their professional and leadership skills and must be based in Brisbane or regional/remote Queensland, with travel and accommodation support available.

You don’t need formal qualifications—just passion, commitment, and a desire to learn.

To apply for the BlakDance Creative Pathways Program, please submit your application by Sunday, 24 August. Your submission should include your personal details, such as name, age, location, and contact information (email and phone). Additionally, provide a short written statement (300–500 words) or a 1–3 minute video/audio recording addressing the following: why you are interested in the program, your experience or interest in performing arts or production, and what you hope to learn or achieve through participation. Optionally, you may include a CV or a list of any relevant experience to support your application.
