Australia’s finest collaborators seize the moment in Kairos
Kairos is a Sydney Festival world premiere of a new Australian dance work, reuniting legendary choreographer, Meryl Tankard (AO), with Australia’s “most popular” composer-pianist, Elena Kats-Chernin (AO), and visual artist, Régis Lansac (OAM).
Kairos is an ancient Greek word meaning “the right or opportune moment for doing, a moment that cannot be scheduled, as it is poised unpredictably between beginnings and ends”. Tankard’s practice explores a vast lexicon of human experience and human movement from the dark and challenging, ugly and beautiful, to the humorous and joyful. These celebrated artists are collaborating with the next generation of dance makers responding to these uncertain and challenging times.
Kairos is commissioned and produced by FORM Dance Projects. FORM is excited to be working with this starry constellation of cross-generational artists directed by the inimitable Meryl Tankard.
“Tankard’s gift for digging deeper into basic instincts… raw physicality colours the choreographer,” said The New York Times, on Meryl Tankard.
Kairos performances will be 19-21 January at Carriageworks – Bay 20 (245 Wilson Street Eveleigh NSW 2015). For attendees under 30, tickets are $39. All other tickets begin at $53. Click here to learn more.
