Australian premiere of Sightings presented by Vitalstatistix
Looking for a funny, warm, and homely dance work to round out your year? In their final presentation for 2022, Vitalstatistix presents Sightings – a new performance and portrait of place by acclaimed artist Gabrielle Nankivell and her collaborators.
Gabrielle is an Australian director and performer with formative ties to Europe, working independently and commissioned by leading dance companies and training institutions. Her work has been widely presented across Australia, Europe and Asia by a plethora of organisations.
Sightings explores personal and collective mythologies of a town through crowd-sourced tales, choreographed interventions, video works, and public performance.
This new work takes Gabrielle’s choreographic practice to site-specific research and storytelling. Over the course of a residency, the artists – accompanied by the enigmatic character known as Creature – will create an uncanny portrait of Yerta Bulti-Port Adelaide.
Embracing unreliable narratives, imagination and haunting, the power of community enthusiasts, and a bent towards the weird, Sightings culminates in a surprising and enchanting performance experience.
Darkly humorous, deeply honouring, and full of warmth, these performance events conjure the curiosity of visiting a private home museum meets backyard film screening meets charming community ritual.
As part of Sightings, the artists are seeking tales of Port Adelaide sites and stories. To contribute and send them on a local adventure, visit the project website HERE.
Sightings will run for five shows only from 23 – 26 November at Waterside, 11 Nile St, Port Adelaide, Kaurna Yerta. Tickets begin at $18. Looking for something weird and wonderful? Get yourself tickets here
