Aussie dance teachers honoured at AIDTA

AIDTA Honours Dance Instructors in 2018The 2018 Australian Independent Dance Teacher Awards (AIDTA) will take place this Friday, March 9 at the John Curtin College of the Arts in Perth, WA.


The dance community is invited to come and support the hard-working teachers and celebrate them in a night of awards and dance performances. In total, 14 teacher finalists from all over Australia will be spotlighted and more than 10 dance performances will be presented.


The dance performances will include Centre of Rhythm Studios, Gail Meade Performing Arts Centre, Remnant Dance, One Mob Dance, Smash Dance Company and Methodist Ladies College Dance Theatre. Yukino McHugh, an Australian dancer who has performed on So You Think You Can Dance, X Factor, in various commercials and recently returned from Europe, will appear thanks to sponsor PADWA.


The Charlesworth Ballet Institute will perform Blitz by Dutch choreographer Aymeric Aude of Introdanse. Terri Charlesworth won the Lifetime Achievement Award in 2016.


In addition, The Performance Company will appear live on the awards night. Director Raquel Muir won the award for Services to Dance in 2017.

Teachers should also note that following the actual awards event on Friday, AIDTA will host a Dance Teaching Festival on Saturday and Sunday, March 10 and 11. Promoted as a great professional development opportunity for dance teachers, the festival will include improvisation and composition techniques with Associate Professor Scott Putman from Virginia Commonwealth University, USA. The festival will also include seminars on professional teaching standards. The Sunday workshop will look at group choreography ideas for Year 11 and 12 dancers.
