Audition Registrations Now Open for Scimm. Dance Pre-Professional 2027 Intake

Audition registrations are now open for the 2027 intake of the Scimm. Dance Pre-Professional Full-Time Course, offering emerging dancers the opportunity to train in a high-performance, industry-connected environment designed to bridge the gap between training and a professional career.

Delivered in Melbourne at the Australian Academy of Dance, the full-time course is tailored for committed dancers aged 16 and over who are serious about pursuing a future in the dance industry. The program offers nationally recognised qualifications, the Certificate IV in Dance and Diploma of Dance (Elite Performance), alongside immersive, industry-led training.

Led by Artistic Directors Scott Pokorny and Tim Barnes, Scimm. Dance has built a reputation for developing technically strong, versatile, and creatively driven artists. The Pre-Professional course reflects this ethos, combining rigorous contemporary training with classical ballet, performance practice, conditioning, and professional development.

“This course is about more than just training, it’s about preparing dancers for the reality of the industry,” say Artistic Directors Scott Pokorny and Tim Barnes.

“We’re creating an environment where dancers are challenged, supported, and given real insight into what it takes to build a sustainable career.”

Students train daily with a faculty of active industry professionals, gaining exposure to a diverse range of choreographic styles and creative processes. The course places a strong emphasis on performance and real-world experience, with opportunities to work closely within the Scimm. Dance Company environment and develop the skills required to transition into professional pathways.

Graduates of the program are already making their mark within the industry. Recent alumni Jayal Balcombe has joined Scimm. Dance Company as a First Company Artist, while Greta Stewart, Carla Fares, and Kalli Dikeos have transitioned into Junior Company Artist roles, highlighting the program’s strong connection to professional outcomes.

With a focus on artistic development, industry readiness, and professional connection, the Scimm. Dance Pre-Professional course continues to position itself as a leading pathway for dancers ready to take the next step.

Scimm. Dance welcomes dancers from all backgrounds and supports access needs on request. Limited scholarships/bursaries and payment plans are available; details provided upon acceptance.

Scimm. Dance’s Pre-Professional 2027 Intake takes place 19 July and 11 October, 2026 at Australian Academy of Dance. Online video submissions are also available. Cost to apply is $30.
