Audition for new ‘Cinderella’ set for Sydney
Bonnie Lythgoe Productions is bringing Cinderella, choreographed by Juliette Verne, to Sydney’s State Theatre this July. An Open Call Audition for Female and Male Ensemble Cast Members was recently announced for Friday, March 18.
Cinderella will present an updated, contemporary version of the classic fairytale in the style of a traditional British family pantomime. A panto is known for its interactive style and humour that appeals to everyone from ages 3–103. It takes the familiar fairytale and injects music from contemporary artists (such as One Direction, Bruno Mars, Katy Perry and Taylor Swift) and instills current newsworthy references into the script.
Bonnie Lythgoe is an entertainment industry success story. With a career spanning more than 30 years, including being a creator and judge of the TV hit So You Think You Can Dance Australia, she has worked with numerous well known entertainers, including Sir Cliff Richard, Ariana Grande, Neil Patrick Harris, Stevie Wonder, Michael Jackson, Diana Ross, Olivia Newton-John, Kylie Minogue, Ricky Martin, The Bee Gees, Black Eyed Peas and Pink.
For Lythgoe’s Cinderella, the Open Call notice states, “We are looking for fabulous male and female dancers with strong Ballet and Commercial Jazz styles with extraordinary personalities. Ladies on pointe, circus tricks, acrobatics and/or breakdance skills are a plus, but not essential.”
If chosen, dancers will have to be available for rehearsals (running June 18-30) and performances (running July 1-17.) Auditions will take place on March 18 at 10 am at The Next Step Performing Arts, located at 15-17 Bibby Street in Chiswick, NSW. Callbacks will be the same day from 2:30 pm onwards.
Email your headshot and resume to jet@j-foxx.com to confirm your audition position by March 11, 2016.
On the day of the auditions, dancers should be warm and ready to dance, dressed to impress. Ladies should bring chorus heels, jazz and pointe shoes. Men should bring jazz shoes and/or runners. Auditionees should know that they might be asked to do a cold read and/or sing. It’s suggested that everyone prepare 16 bars of an up-tempo pop song or ballad.
