Apps to close for 2016 DirtyFeet Choreo Labs
DirtyFeet is seeking applications from choreographers for next year’s Choreographic Lab Program. The Choreographic Lab provides a supportive environment where early career professionals can come together to explore their creative practice. The Lab builds relationships between artists, facilitates the development of methodology and skills, and can be the first steps towards the creation of new work.
This is a studio space grant that includes allowances for mentorship and documentation. Choreographers will have access to two weeks of studio space at Shopfront Theatre (Carlton, Sydney, NSW) or ReadyMade Works (Ultimo, NSW), a NSW-based mentor to offer guidance, professional photographic documentation, basic film documentation of their work and a small studio sharing hosted by DirtyFeet on the final Friday of their Choreographic Lab.
Choreographers can work with any number of dance artists from the DirtyFeet network of volunteers looking for professional development opportunities. Choreographers may like to work with their own artists in the studio for the project, however these artists are required to become “DirtyFeeters” (financial members) prior to the start of the Lab.
To meet selection criteria, applicants should be early career choreographers (in their first five years of practice), their project should be based in contemporary dance practices and their artists should be NSW-based. Applicants’ works can be at any stage of development, but preference is given to research or the creation of new work.
For more information, or to apply, visit www.dirtyfeet.com.au. Applications must be received by email to angela@dirtyfeet.com.au by midnight on October 30. There is only one round of submissions and selected applicants will be notified on November 13. Members of the DirtyFeet Board of Directors make the selections.
