AMPA Dance faculty’s end of trimester show- INTERNO
AMPA Dance faculty presents INTERNO, a celebration of true expression that begins with a journey inwards. The performance encompasses faculty works in ballet, contemporary, and jazz, as well as student’s final choreography projects.
The first half includes final choreography projects created by second-year students, Malachi Sylvester, Ben Takatsuka, Clayton Webb & Connor Willis.
Act two encompasses faculty works by Francesca Gozdek, Belinda Hernandez, Andii Huynh, Alysia Jarvis and Georgette Sofatzis. Award winning Flamenco artist, Marina Tamayo, and dancer extraordinaire, Victor Zarallo, will also share a world premiere of their work Bolero, performed by the entire dance cohort. Returning to the stage is AMPA’s alumni dance company with a brand new work.
Bolero is a classic work taken into a contemporary context. It is the result of a new discourse between genres, flamenco, ballet and contemporary. It is culturally embedded with traditional storytelling and a mix of lived experiences.
Every trimester, a number of AMPA students present their final choreographic projects in front of a live audience. The process begins with researching the chosen concept in depth before entering the studio to work with a group of selected dancers. The last stage involves the design of lighting, costumes and sound, as well as the promotion of the production.
Ben Takatsuka presents Sisyphean, a contemporary dance work that explores the effects of Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder (OCD) on Quality of Life (QoL).
Connor Willis will show Funky Brain, a project about the overlapping symptoms of neurodevelopmental disorders.
Clayton Webb presents If I Can’t Have You, No One Can, which explores the extents we go to for the people we love as well as individuals’ obsession for romantic partners.
Finally, Malachi Sylvester shares A Murmur, which focuses on a natural phenomenon known as murmuration. This is when 1000 to 10 million European starlings flock.
AMPA’s INTERNO will run on 28 & 29 April at 7:30 pm at the NIDA Playhouse Theatre. Tickets begin at $40.40. Click here to learn more.
