A decade of dance for Scimm. Dance Company

Scimm. Dance Company kick off 2023 with 10 Years: An Anniversary Performance: a selection of carefully curated pieces to celebrate the journey they’ve been on to develop their signature style of contemporary dance. .

Launching at the Skydeck Theatre from 20 – 21 January, 10 Years: An Anniversary Performance is a triple bill featuring both solo and ensemble pieces choreographed by Company Directors, Scott Pokorny and Tim Barnes, in collaboration with the dancers from their Professional Company.

Scimm. Dance Company was founded in 2013 by Pokorny and Barnes with the goal of expanding performance-based opportunities for contemporary dance artists in Melbourne, Australia.

Pokorny and Tim Barnes say, “we wanted to dismantle these boundaries between dance industry sectors we have personally experienced. We thought, if we create more opportunities for contemporary dance artists, we can further connect to the broader arts community.”

Pokorny and Barnes are, “honoured to look back on the hard work and passion of everyone who has joined us on this journey. Our strong bond, friendship and love of dance have carried our company to this point today. We are most excited to see our growth as creative directors come to life in this anniversary performance and to continue learning as we enter the next decade.”

The show season of 10 Years: An Anniversary Performance is not to be missed this January with Friday the 20th starting at 7.30 pm and Saturday the 21st starting at 8.00 pm at The Space Dance and Arts Centre, 318 Chapel St, Prahran, 3181.
