2017 Sydney Eisteddfod Ballet Scholarship and Dance Group Finals coming up

Lania Atkins with Harrison LeeThe 2017 Sydney Eisteddfod Ballet Scholarship and Dance Group Finals are just around the corner! With eight of the most promising ballet students Australia can muster and top dance troupes vying for other awards, this is one of the most popular annual events in the Sydney Eisteddfod calendar.

Sponsored by The Guillermo Keys-Arenas Dance Trust and supplemented by the Sydney Eisteddfod Jubilee Fund, the total ballet scholarship prize value exceeds $36,000. This prize is one of the most valuable awards in the southern hemisphere for students studying ballet.

The prestigious Sydney Eisteddfod Ballet Scholarships have been shooting stars into leading ballet companies throughout the world for decades, with The Australian Ballet’s Leanne Stojmenov and Adam Bull and The Royal Ballet’s Steven McRae among them.

The judges for the 2017 Ballet Scholarship are Hao Bin (former Queensland Ballet principal from 2011-2015) and Prudence Caldwell (former scholarship recipient and esteemed international dancer). They will adjudicate with The Australian Ballet’s Artistic Director David McAllister, who is returning once again just for the Final.

While the ballet finalists delight with their grace, the troupes competing in the Dance Group Final will try and amaze with seemingly impossible moves and tricks.

These group finalists include Brigidine College (St Ives), North Sydney Girls High School (Crows Nest), Pymble Ladies’ College B, Pymble Ladies’ College C, NBSC Mackellar Girls Campus (Manly Vale), Mount St Benedict College A (Pennant Hills), St Columba Anglican School (Port Macquarie) and Stella Maris College (Manly).

The 2017 Sydney Eisteddfod Ballet Scholarship and Dance Group Finals are set for Sunday, July 30 at 2:30 pm at the Sydney Opera House. Visit www.sydneyeisteddfod.com.au for more information or to book tickets.
