Άπειρη Στοργή | Infinite Affection – New Independent Dance Theatre Show

“When Greeks dance, we walk along a razor’s edge, balancing our bodies between joy and sorrow, pride and regret, life and death.”

Infinite Affection | Άπειρη Στοργή is a new dance collaboration between first and third generation Greek migrants. Part-performance, part-ritual, this show is a lament that unearths the joy and sorrow spoken through dance.

Bringing together Luke Macaronas, a 23-year-old theatre maker, and Christos Konstantinides, a 67-year-old Greek dancer, Infinite Affection explores how dance binds young and old together, passing on tradition and ancestral memory from generation to generation. This unique collaboration combines live music, theatre and dance, promising to captivate and haunt audiences in its exploration of ageing, intimacy, migration and tradition.

Christos Konstantinides is an icon of the Greek community in Melbourne, teaching and performing Greek dance and drama for over 50 years. Luke Macaronas is an emerging theatre performer of Greek descent from Melbourne. The pair are busy rehearsing together, creating original choreography while also training in traditional folk styles.

Infinite Affection will be performed at Sts Constantine & Helen Greek Orthodox Church in South Yarra. This iconic Greek-Australian venue will be brought to life by this powerful performance that traces the rich traditions shared between migrants and their children.

Luke Macaronas said, “These traditions have been passed down for thousands of years; they are complex and powerful, and still have a great deal to teach us today. Through dance we can celebrate and mourn, we can confront intense joy and intense suffering. I’m curious about how these rituals and traditions transform peoples’ bodies over time, and wanted to work with older dancers who have been immersed in these practices their whole lives. Together, we’ve deconstructed and reimagined these dances, finding ways to share them with new audiences in Melbourne.”
