WAB presents two takes on ‘Romeo & Juliet’

Edward Clug’s Radio & JulietThe greatest love story ever told, in two remarkably different ways. This September will see West Australian Ballet (WAB) transform His Majesty’s Theatre in Perth into fair Verona for Youri Vámos’ Romeo and Juliet and the addictive world of rock giants Radiohead for Edward Clug’s Radio & Juliet.

Presented as a dual season, the two performances are offered through the Alcohol.Think Again education campaign and they’ll run on separate evenings.

This moving production of Romeo and Juliet, set during 1930’s Italian mafia warfare, was last performed by WAB in 2009 to sell-out audiences. The sheer joie de vivre and humanity of its characters, wittiness, tempo and excitement permeate the entire ballet amid impressive and poignant love scenes.

“Only those who move the heart will change the world – this is the goal I am trying to achieve,” stated Vàmos previously.

A contrasting face on the same coin, Radio & Juliet is back after a critically acclaimed season in 2014. A fast-paced and hard-hitting contemporary take on Shakespeare’s classic, Radio & Juliet is set entirely to the music of Radiohead. Edward Clug’s intricate yet robust choreography paired with the distinct sounds of one of the most popular contemporary rock bands of the 21st century makes for an overt, introspective journey through the psyche of the modern day Juliet.

Radio & Juliet will be presented in association with the MoveMe contemporary dance festival. Learn more about this festival here.
