Tracks Dance Co. seeks 100 locals for project

En Masse 2019 ProjectTracks Dance Company in Darwin, NT invites locals to be a “tourist” in their own city and join Darwin’s largest community dance event. The troupe is seeking 100 people (no dance experience necessary) to join them in a dance that takes a cheeky look at the dry season tourists in Darwin.

The new work will be set to a funky soundtrack composed specifically for Tracks by James Mangohig. All participants need to do is grab their backpack, slap on their sunscreen and join Tracks for a seven-minute dance extravaganza that will descend on Civic Park on July 14.

Tracks is looking for locals of all ages, abilities and backgrounds to perform in this project, En Masse. Participants need to commit to attend a minimum of two rehearsals, plus one dress rehearsal and one performance (four dates altogether). They need to be willing to try something new, have fun and dress up in a colourful tourist outfit.

The rehearsals will be held at the Tracks studio on Saturday’s — June 15, 22, 29 and July 6 from 11 a.m. – 1 p.m. Participants can request a Tracks dance leader to come to their group and teach the dance. (A “group” could be a dance school, community group, soccer team, local business, or any other group of 10 or more participants). There will also be an online video and written teaching resources that volunteers can access to help them learn and remember the steps.
