‘Show Queen’ cabaret night returns to Sydney

Show Queen Founder and ProducerOne of Sydney’s favourite cabaret nights, Show Queen, is back starting this Sunday, September 24. Hosted by Trevor Ashley, Show Queen features a handpicked line-up of Australia’s most talented and celebrated musical theatre stars alongside the next generation of performers.

Celebrating 10 years since the first Show Queen at its birthplace, Ginger’s on Oxford Street, the return season opening night features Helpmann Award winner Alex Rathgeber (Anything Goes, The Wizard of Oz), Erin Clare (We Will Rock You, Heathers), Stephen Madsen (Heathers, Muriel’s Wedding), Margi De Ferranti (Ruthless, Mamma Mia), Tom Sharah (Muriel’s Wedding) and cabaret icon Catherine Alcorn (Cathartic, 5 Lesbians Eating a Quiche).

Trevor Ashley began Show Queen in 2007 to highlight the exceptional emerging talent in Australia, and only put it on hold to cement his status as the “busiest man in Australian show-business” amid sell-out tours of Liza on an ‘ELiza’s Back (Is Broken) and Diamonds Are For Trevor (also broadcast on Foxtel), and leading roles in Hairspray, Les Miserables (Helpmann Award nominee) and Jesus Christ Superstar, as well directing Heathers: The Musical (Hayes Theatre Co and Sydney Opera House) and Mack & Mabel (Hayes Theatre Co).

The revised format promises to have more glamour, more excitement and more musical royalty than before, featuring the most loved songs of Broadway and new interpretations of classic showstoppers.

Show Queen returns this Sunday, with doors opening at 6:30 p.m. at Ginger’s on Oxford Street, located at Oxford Hotel in Darlinghurst. Tickets are $25 and can be booked at showqueen.com.au.

Show Queen will continue on October 22, November 19, and December 17, with guests to be announced online. It is co-produced by Chris Archer and Trevor Ashley, with Musical Director Steven Kreamer (Assassins, Little Shop of Horrors, Side Show, Rent, Broadway Unplugged) leading a three-piece band.
