RAD shows loyalty to independent artists

RAD shows loyalty to Australian independent artistsAs of 2017, the Royal Academy of Dance (RAD) is sponsoring artists through use of its iconic headquarters in Darlinghurst, NSW. This is through the Dance Artist in Residence (DAIR) program, which assists dancers and choreographers across the state to deepen their practice and develop material for new choreographic works.

Artist Ghenoa Gala was the first artist to use the RAD space. She said, “It is really nice to meet people outside of the independent industry [like RAD], … and am grateful for this opportunity. This could not have been possible to get [my Winds of Woerr remount for Artslands Dubbo] up and running without this DAIR residency.”

The RAD recognises that its training can be applicable for all genres of dance. As a major international organisation, RAD is partnering with Ausdance NSW to provide space and mentorship in central Sydney, which is hard to find. This partnership between an international, major organisation and independent artists is reflective of the times, with government funding being tough to come by.
