QLD youth present ‘The Little Mermaid’ ballet

Ballet Theatre of QueenslandBallet Theatre of Queensland, which celebrated its rich 80-year history in 2017, is now preparing to present the magical underwater world of The Little Mermaid. Set for January 17-20 at the QPAC Playhouse, the enchanting ballet based on the Hans Christian Andersen tale is choreographed by Artistic Director Timothy Brown.

 

With exquisite sets by Rozina Suliman and Bill Haycock and costumes by Carmel Wenck, The Little Mermaid promises to showcase the talents of Queensland’s premier youth ballet company. Centre stage will see BTQ Soloist Amy Ronnfeldt as The Little Mermaid and QUT graduate Jayden Grogan as the Prince.

 

In the classic tale, The Little Mermaid’s greatest wish is to discover the world above the sea, but on her 15th birthday she strikes a deal with the wicked and powerful Sea Witch that will change her life. Lighting designer Wesley Bluff will help bring the underwater and then above-water scenes to life.
