Melbourne Latin Festival 2017While some details are still being finalised, Melbourne Latin Festival organisers Natalie and Pauline Montano have announced that this year’s MLF theme is “The Great Gatsby.” Past themes have included Arabian Nights, Superheros and Villains, Burlesque, and even Walt Disney.

The 9th Melbourne Latin Festival will be held April 7-9 at Jason Coleman’s Ministry of Dance. It will feature three evenings of Latin dance shows and parties, over 150 Latin dancers, 12 Latin DJ’s, and 40 dance workshops. Workshops range from the complete novice to the professional, including styles like Salsa, Bachata, Zouk, Samba, Cha Cha, Argentine Tango, Kizomba, Gafieira and more.

Excitingly, it has also been announced that Frankie Martinez (USA) is back this year. He’s known for having performed and taught with ABAKUÁ in over 20 countries worldwide. They have performed at prestigious venues including Madison Square Garden, Roseland Ballroom, Lincoln Center, Aaron Davis Hall, Jacob’s Pillow and NY Summerstage, amongst many others.

Martinez will lead a Pachanga Master Class at the 2017 festival. Set for Friday, April 7 from 4-5 pm, the class is open to intermediate and advanced level dancers, with only 20 spots available to claim. To book these or any other festival tickets, head to www.trybooking.com/LXUW.

This year MLF will be giving back to a nonprofit in the city that addresses homelessness. In past years, MLF supported cancer-fighting foundations. The specific organisation for this year will be announced soon.
