Melbourne City Ballet’s ‘Madame Butterfly’

Melbourne City BalletMelbourne City Ballet Artistic Director Michael Pappalardo will bring to life the tragic opera favourite Madame Butterfly at the Darebin Arts & Entertainment Centre on December 17 and 18.

 

Set to Italian opera composer Giacomo Puccini’s signature score, the production will feature gorgeous costumes, impressive new scenery and dazzling hairpieces.

 

The story ballet follows the journey of Butterfly (Cho Cho-San), who marries an American sailor named Pinkerton. Together the couple has a child. But after many years, even whilst Butterfly has remained loyal, Pinkerton returns to Japan with a new American wife, who has decided to take away Cho-Cho’s child.
