‘Lord of the Flies’ pro cast announced

Matthew Bourne’s Lord of the FliesIn what promises to be one of the biggest theatrical events of 2017 in Australia, Arts Centre Melbourne is bringing Sir Matthew Bourne’s Lord of the Flies to the State Theatre stage from 5 – 9 April. An Australian exclusive, Lord of the Flies is an adaptation of William Golding’s classic novel, transformed into a chilling and entertaining new production by Matthew Bourne’s New Adventures & Re:Bourne.

It has just been announced that New Adventures Principal Dancer Dominic North will play the principal role of Ralph alongside Luke Murphy (Piggy) and Dan Wright (Jack) in the Australian premiere.

They will be joined by six Australian professional dancers: Jordan Bretherton, Shay Debney, Damian Meredith, Taylor Scanlan, Kyall Shanks and Patrick Weir – plus a company of 23 boys and young men who will be cast following a large-scale and state-wide grass-roots community outreach program across Victoria.

Trained by the New Adventure & Re:Bourne team, Shanks and fellow Australian dance artist Holly Durant are currently leading workshops to facilitate a fun and inspiring dance-theatre experience for all-comers. For the participants, these workshops are proving to be extraordinary experiences in themselves, but those with the most potential (regardless of their background or experience) will be encouraged to deepen their involvement and audition to be part of the full production in early April 2017, forming the Young Ensemble and joining professional dancers onstage.
