Ausdance Victoria names new director

Andy HowittAusdance Victoria, the body and voice for dance in Victoria, recently announced the appointment of Andy Howitt as it’s new Director and CEO.

 

Howitt comes to Ausdance Victoria with a wealth of experience in dance, most recently as Artistic Director of Citymoves Dance Agency in Aberdeen, Scotland. Prior to this, he was the Artistic Director at YDance (Scottish Youth Dance), working successfully in the position for 12 years. Howitt has also worked as Dance Director for TAG Theatre Company.

 

Howitt originally trained in teaching and advanced performance at Trinity Laban Conservatoire of Music and Dance in London, UK. He has since worked extensively as a choreographer and has also performed with numerous companies including Lloyd Newson (DV8), Scottish Opera, Transitions Dance Company (Trinity/Laban), Scottish Chamber Orchestra, Scottish Dance Theatre, Dannsa for BBC Alba and Dance House (BBC2.)

 

“It gives me great pleasure and excitement to be asked to lead Ausdance Victoria as Director and CEO into its next phase of development,” Howitt said. “I hope everyone has the chance to be inspired by my time as Director to develop dance in many ways and I look forward to meeting and dancing with you in 2013.”

 

Jordan Beth Vincent, Chair of Ausdance Victoria, welcomes Howitt.

 

“We are really excited with this appointment,” Vincent said. “Andy has a wealth of experience working in the dance sector overseas. We look forward to him leading our talented and enthusiastic team to further develop the vibrant dance sector in Victoria.”

 

Howitt will commence his position at Ausdance Victoria in late February 2013.
