2012 Schools Spectacular

Sydney Schools Spectacular2012 marks the 29th year of one of Australia’s most colourful and inspiring events on the entertainment calendar, the Schools Spectacular.  This year 3,600 students from 400 NSW public schools will showcase their talent and hard work in an epic production of music, song and dance, dazzling costumes and brilliant choreography that will captivate audiences of all ages.

This inspirational performing arts showcase will light up the Sydney Entertainment Centre with four shows only on Friday 23 and Saturday 24 November.  Audiences will have the thrill of seeing the wealth of talent and versatility in today’s public schools, combined with the commitment and creativity that comes from the 600 dedicated teachers who nurture that talent.

This year’s theme Our Time speaks directly from the heart of the young performers.  It is their time to stand in the spotlight and shine.  It is their time to make a difference, their time to showcase their passions and talent, and their time to develop into the future leaders that shape this nation. The performers will take us on a journey through different worlds and different eyes, and through their hopes, dreams and personal experiences. They will leave us in no doubt that we have just witnessed something very special – the beginning of a new era.

The line-up for the 2012 extravaganza boasts a 1,300-voice choir; a 180 piece orchestra; 2,000 dancers aged from 5 to 18; plus rock, jazz, brass and marching bands with featured soloists aged from 7 to 18 years.

Schools Spectacular has introduced tens of thousands of students to the thrill of performing to capacity houses and has launched the careers of a host of Australia’s most popular performers including international artists Human Nature, Australia’s Got Talent 2011 Winner Jack Vidgen, The Voice finalists Diana Rouvas and Darren Percival, Australia’s Got Talent semi-finalist Natasha Hoeberigs, Joshua Horner (Dancing with the Stars judge and star of A Chorus Line); ARIA award winners Paulini and Angus and Julia Stone; musical theatre stars David Harris, Lucy Maunder, Amanda Harrison, Julie Goodwin, Trevor Ashley; composer Gavin Lockley and country singers The McClymonts, Felicity Urquhart and Darren Coggan.
